Thanks so much for having me on the Sit Here and Read blog! I love it!
I’ve always been an avid reader. As a kid, I remember being so excited when the librarian added a little red dot sticker to my library card! It meant my book limit increased. I could check out 10 books at a time instead of 4… My little book-lover heart swelled!
And even though I’m writing books now, I still read. Every day. There is something about escaping into a story that helps me relax and decompress from real life. If I’m reading a series with characters I really love, it’s like visiting with old friends.
Usually I read paranormal romance and urban fantasy, occasionally horror, (Have you read Joe Hill’s Heart-Shaped Box? Super spooky ghost story! Loved it!), but right now my kindle is full of YA which is rare for me! LOL I’m loving Kelley Armstrong’s YA The Calling and I just downloaded Jeri Smith-Ready’s Shine the final book of her amazing YA trilogy.
But in spite of the wide range of genres, my taste always leans toward darker stories. I like really twisted villains, and stories with life and death on the line. Nothing keeps me turning pages like trying to figure out how our hero is ever going to get out alive and earn his happy ending! LOL
Since Night Walker was published, I have gotten such a kick from hearing from readers who hate my villain, Brother Mentigo, so much that they email me to tell me they cheered when he finally got what he had coming to him.
As a writer, I hope readers keep those pages flipping just to see Calisto finally nail Brother Mentigo in a final showdown at the end… Because as a reader, those are the kind of books I eat up! LOL
So what kind of books attract you? Do you like it dark and suspenseful, or light and fun?
I love both types of books but I especially enjoy the dark and suspenseful that keeps me on my toes.
Thanks for stopping by Lisa!
